Albums for Review 2010-03-09
It’s time once more for me to list my recently purchased albums, and albums that I plan on purchasing in the future. I hope to have a chance to review all of these on Music Reviews in the future.
Recent purchases, as always, have a line through them. I try to listen to each album about a dozen times before writing a review, and have many unreviewed albums already in my collection, so it may be awhile before any of the new purchases appear on the site.
If you have any suggestions for other artists or albums, or an album suggestion for any of the artists where I am unsure of which album to buy, please let me know. I am always looking for new music to add to my collection. Thanks to Thomas for suggesting Fire Of Unknown Origin by Blue ?yster Cult.

Yarn owes as much to Gram Parsons and Earl Scruggs as to Jerry Garcia and Exile On Main Street-era Rolling Stones. Following in a fine tradition that includes forward thinking roots bands like The Flying Burrito Brothers, New Riders of The Purple Sage and Ryan Adams & The Cardinals, Yarn weaves roots musical idioms into a fresh, exciting sound that turns on hipsters and country fans alike. Edie Brickell, anticipating a performance with Yarn, summed it up: “I’m excited to get to sing with this band. they have a lot of heart and soul.” Yarn gotten a bit of buzz and excited international press about their last release, Empty Pockets, which has been in the national AMA charts since October 2008 (reaching #5) and made the Ballot for the 2009 Grammy Awards in several categories.

Your message feels spammy, but I will assume that it is a recommendation to review an album by Yarn. 🙂 Since I am unfamiliar with them, do you have any specific albums that you would recommend?
It’s not spam. trust me I am a huge yarn fan. if you go to the official yarn website at wwww.yarnmusic.net you can stream Yarn first 2 albums from start to finish. 3rd album will be out in April. they make country music for people like me that does not like country music. Also keep in mind that the while there studio stuff from the first 2 albums are more acoustic the live show is loud and electric. the 3rd album will be the first time they plug in on an album. There is tons of links on there website to live audio and video. They are the best kept secret in all of NY.
Sorry, no offense meant. My spam filter had blocked the message, which was the reason for the opening of my reply. 🙂 I’ll be sure to give them a listen soon!
No problem. It’s all good. with an open mind you will not be disappointed. I bet you have never heard anyone play the Mandolin like Yarn’s Mandolin player Andrew. Aside from the basic traditional acoustic Mandolin he also plays an electric Mandolin. He shreds up and down like Jimi Hendrix or Jerry Garcia. It blows my mind every time. So far you only get to hear him play the electric Mandolin in concert. However as I mentioned above they have tons of concerts you can stream or download via there website as well as tons of Youtube videos.
They made a good first impression. I mainly listen to music at work, so I’ll try to remember to download some of their tracks tomorrow. It is also a plus that they offer flac and vorbis files in addition to mp3s.
